I received an amazing email from Kristin Peska, a new friend from Lord of Life Church in La Fox, IL. Over the past 7 months they've been working through my book, First Impressions: Creating Wow Experiences in Your Church - restrategizing, reorganizing, ramping up the many great people already serving.
In her email she pointed out the disconnect that can happen between those who have been around the church for some time and those who are new. Serving can be a "job", a mere task to fulfill. When it is, burn-out often follows, and guests aren't welcomed in an engaging way.
After 7 months of re-visioning and reconstructing, her email closed with this:
It has been so great to see people finding their right fit, sometimes for the very first time here, thriving in their coordinator roles, adding their personality, expertise, and passion to their areas, and sharing their vision with their teams. Don't get me wrong...at about 6 months into this transition, we're "embracing the chaos" right now in many ways, moving from staff-driven to volunteer-empowered, from "fill a slot" to "serving with a purpose" and most often the chaos isn't because of the volunteers!) But the shift is starting to happen and God is blessing our efforts. Thanks for the book! And the vision of what can be! And the opportunity to give feedback. (I love the Simply Strategic...books, too!)Kristin Peska
Thanks, Kristin, for the encouraging feedback and the God-report about what he's doing in your church!
People matter!
