Already I've not kept my own promise. In a posting over a week ago (read here: Inspiring Guarantees), I said that I would find and post each week at least one church who was offering their guests a guarantee of some kind. I've had to dig quite a bit. In fact I've hit a blogger's block for over a week now. Over the last week or so, every time I've gone on-line to post, I've spent loads of time googling around for church guarantees or promises. At any rate, I'm late... and I have a promise to make good on.
Before I post any more church guarantees, this note. Know that you can deliver on your promise before you make it. I broke this cardinal rule of service: under-promise, over-deliver. I know the rule; I strive to practice it. However, I over-promised on a good idea (post a new inspiring guarantee every week) before making certain I could deliver.
Which brings up another observation: many of the on-line "promises" I've read from local churches are broad, general and therefore, left open to the interpretation of the reader/guest. For instance, the promise that you'll leave inspired by God is at best subjective. A new guest could easily never return if the expectation is over-promised and under-delivered.
Okay, look for post #3 in this series. It'll happen with some regularity - somewhere between weekly and every 17 days. I should be able to deliver on that guarantee.
