James Meeks, pastor of Salem Baptist Church in Chicago, spoke during session 2 today, exposing Enemies of a Growing Church. I'm not sure what I expected when I heard Meeks would be speaking. But what I got was a man who loves Jesus... a man who is passionate about who God is in the world... a man who is committed to understanding and living out the justice and mercy of God on earth.
I walked away wondering where in my life and ministry there is room for me to trust God with his agenda, his kingdom... more than I already do.
What Bill Hybels addressed in session 1 - passion isn't enough - James brought full circle: passion for God is still necessary, still a must to lead in the local church.
