Okay, this is really unfair to bottom-line today's opening session, but... tough. I'm going to bottom-line it. Ashish Nanda, Research Director, Harvard Business School was tremendous - great thinker, simplistic illustrator. His team conducted research among stock analysts, studying the patterns and outcomes of "star" players who left one company for another.
Here's the bottom-line (you'll have to order the 06 conference DVD set in a few weeks from willowcreek.com):
- Stars are stars, largely because of their environment and their team.
- Grow your stars up from the inside. They'll seldom come from another place where they're shining.
- There are no shortcuts to building key leaders (stars) who will advance the shared mission of the church.
Sounds a lot like a book a couple of my friends wrote. You should really pick up Tim Stevens' and Tony Morgan's book, Simply Strategic Stuff. Then, you should get Simply Strategic Volunteers. And, while you're at it, round off your learning experience with Simply Strategic Growth. Ah, heck, save yourself some time and money - order all three for one great price.
After all, Harvard School of Business affirms their strategy.
