So my friend, Tim Stevens, posted his Blogging Advice yesterday. It's really good advice. I practice little of it, but it's good advise. Here's his core list (without his additional thoughts on each item), followed by my "Common Practices in Blogging list.
Tim's Blogging Advice
- Determine Your Target.
- Write for the Traffic.
- Don't Advertise.
- Give Link Love.
- Don't Ask for Link Love.
- Don't Make Me Leave.
- Post in Advance.
- Don't Criticize.
- Use a Reader.
- Just Jump In.

Waltz's Common Practices in Blogging
- Post every 23 days. At least.
- Don't post from your cell phone during traffic.
- Don't advertise. Advertising every 3 weeks doesn't work anyway.
- Give link love. Especially when you're copying someone else's blogging advice.
- Don't expect anyone to link to you when you only copy someone else's post.
- Don't make Tim leave. And if you do...(link here to finish the sentence).
- If you don't post in advance, then link late to some really great stuff you wish you'd posted yourself.
- Don't criticize-personally. This is okay. This isn't. (And this isn't a criticism. It's an example. An illustration. An observation. Such a distinctive difference.)
- If your Reader gets too full too quickly, hire a reader to tell you about the good stuff you should read in blog-world.
- Just jump in. Slowly. Every 3 weeks or so is good.
I think I'm on a roll.
